The meeting was called to order by President Dan Sokoloski at 9:00 A.M. There were 23 members present.

Order of Business:

  1. Budget Adjustments - (A) New building as part of the green house complex. The majority of the funding will come from the restitution budget which is overseen by Billy Privette. As part of the financing process, we are required to make a matching contribution in the amount of $520.00. This amount will be returned to us through some wonderfully mysterious formulaÉ The total expenditure will be approximately $4700.00. A motion was made and seconded that we approve the expenditure of the matching fund of $520.00. The motion was made, seconded and passed without objection. (B) A motion was duly made, seconded and passed without objection that we expend $200.00 to send David Barkley to the State Master Gardener Conference.
  2. Al Hight, who has rendered many invaluable services to our chapter over the years, assuming new duties in Pender County. In appreciation he was presented with a gift certificate with expressions of gratitude and the promise of helping him as he relocates.
  3. Day on the Farm is on hold for the present due to the high cost to the school district of transporting students. This activity may be cancelled for this year. Heritage Day at Indigo Farms will be on Saturday, October 1. Help is needed. Plant sale, October 7 and 8. There will be a work day to prepare for the sale on September 27 and 28.
  4. David Barkley reported that we will not be participating in the Cape Fear Fair/ Exposition this year as in the past. There is the possibility of being involved in certain activities such as helping with the entries, greeting the public and customer service for which the 4-H would receive a donation.
  5. Shirley Waggoner-Eisenman reminded the membership of the state conference at Goldsboro and provided update information on our speakers who have been engaged through the remainder of this year, January through April and June of 2006.
  6. Arlene Hubner reminded the membership of the holiday party on December 13.
  7. Refreshments for the October meeting will be furnished by Pat Hagarty and Maggie Hoon.
  8. Charlie Spencer - In order to use the copy machine we must now use an identification number. 2602 for all items not connected to the association. That number is 2600. This is for cost accounting purposes.
Following a brief break, we had the privilege of hearing Mr. Erv Evans, State Master Gardener Coordinator who presented information on the history and structure of master gardeners throughout the United States as well as in North Carolina.

Respectfully submitted,

Richard Boland
