Monthly Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Richard Boland at 9:09. There were 20 in attendance. Thanks to Ford Balch, Vicki Kay and Barbara McCoy for refreshments.
Richard Boland, President Advised that a membership ID card will be issued to all active
members. A $500.00 allocation for the new quarterly Costal Gardener Newsletter being written and published by Brunswick, New Hanover, and Pender Extension offices was requested from the Brunswick County Master Gardeners. A motion was made to donate $500.00 to Brunswick County Extension for 2007 Costal Gardner Newsletter to be allocated from New Projects was made by Al Smith. Motion was seconded by Dominic Lowenstein. Motion was passed.
Jim, Gardens, advised that 6 to 7 people are needed for the scheduled garden work day's the 1st Monday and 3rd Tuesday each month. Specific work is planed based on the assumption that workers will be here - your are needed please come. Also if you have time come any day of the week Jim can always use the help.
Greenhouse, The sprinklers are now up and running, just a few glitches need to be tweaked. The greenhouse and gardens can now be watered via sprinklers. The timers are being completed /adjusted. and should be online soon. Hand watering is now a fond memory.
Al Smith, Treasurer April expenses were reviewed.
Charlie Spencer, Coordinator, A Plant clinic is planned for the Shallotte Farmers Market (date and time to be advised). It is held every Saturday 8A to 12N at the Western Auto Parking Lot on Main Street Shallotte). June 7th 10A to 2P Life is a Beach seminar Creating Great Landscapes in the Salt and Sand at Cooperative Extension Training Center. Open to anyone who would like to attend. June 9th 8AM at Belville Elementary assistance/suggestions of how to clean up and plant area at the school this fall. Date to be advised Leland Middle School also requested assistance and suggestions on cleaning and planting an area at their school . June 14th, annual Marietta Day Lilly Trip departing from Government Center and for people in the southern part of country from the McDonald's at 904 and 17. October 8 -10 2007 - NC State Master Gardener Conference will be held in Raleigh. Detailed information will be sent to us. Oct 10, 11, 12, 2007 Fall plant sale schedule - details to follow. We are missing some of the Greenhouse aprons marked Property of the Greenhouse if you have one please return it. New book purchased for the library - Garden Insects of North America The Ultimate Guide to Back Yard Bugs. TURF Samples - please read the directions for taking samples, it is critical that the sample is correctly taken. Charlie commended the new Master Gardener classes for all their hard work and help. The Master Gardener Recognition Luncheon will follow the Monthly Meeting on June 28th. Please plan to attend, invitations will be sent.
Shirley Waggoner- Eisenman, Vice-President, Requested a correction to General Meeting Minutes for April 26, 2007, under Charlie Spencer's statement on Charlotte Glen reworking NCSTU publications on plant, trees and shrubs specifically for costal area, please correct to NCSU . Over 1200 Master Gardeners attended the International Conference in Little Rock, 475 for AK and 84 from TX. Overall were 45 states represented including AK, HI and the Virgin Islands, plus Canada and Great Britain. She found each state program is handled differently.
David Barkley, Consumer Horticultural Agent, Reviewed his trip to Little Rock AK for the International Master Gardeners Conference. In 2008 the Regional Master Gardener Conference will be held in OK. The International Master Gardener Conference will be held in Las Vegas, NV in 2009 and 2011 in West Virginia. NC State Ground Pearl Study Project - Peter Hurdle has requested volunteers with Ground Pearl to assist with reporting stages and changes. He will work with David to schedule training . Please contact David if you can participate.
Mr. Hughes Senior is retiring and selling out. David and or Ash will contact him to see if there are any plants we can use in our Garden or Greenhouse. June speaker Lucy Bradley NC Horticulture Department. Topic to be advised for the newsletter
The meeting was adjourned following a presentation by Brian Capo, Extension Agent Urban Forestry New Hanover County.
