With 28 members present, the meeting was called to order by President Dan Sokoloski at 9:00 A.M. with the following matters on the agenda:

Charles Spencer - Jane Matthews, the county volunteer coordinator announced ÒMake a Difference DayÓ on October 22. There will be a food drive for the BC Family Assistance Agency, a walk to raise money for Hope Harbor, and a CROP walk. We are invited to participate. Food items can be deposited in CharlieÕs office. - When on the Hot Line, copies of any calls referred to any agents should be given to Kathy Walters. - Make welcome the 18 or so visitors we will have with us today. - Fall plant sale will be October 7-8. - On September 17 there will be a seminar at Wal-Mart at Southport and a follow-up seminar in November. - There is now good communication with the school system.

Reporting for Linda Lemieux, Charlie informed the membership that, as of July 1, we had on hand $16,974.00. About $4700.00 of that has been committed. This will leave us with an excess of $12,500.00. (Figures are approximate). The Talking Tree Trail is progressing with help from the Boy Scouts who are developing a class room area and will be developing the front entrance. Promotional materials will be developed.

Hilton Holcomb - There is still need of regular maintenance in the garden. There are some annuals which need planting. Containers need watering.

Ash Tyler - Some repotting needs to be done. Everything in the Greenhouse has been removed to the Shade house. The electrified fence will be extended to protect the propagation beds from the deer. Crushed limestone will be put down in the green house for safety.

Shirley Waggoner-Eisenman - The speaker for the August meeting will be Steve Bambara from the Entomology Department of NCSU. SeptemberÕs speaker is yet to be determined. In October we will have Irv Evans, State Coordinator for Master Gardeners and in November we will have Dr. Wanda Sykes, District Director of the southeast district. Suggestions for speakers and topics are welcome.

Becky Dus - Due to web presence, there will be a reduction in Newsletter mailings beginning this month. The transition from printed Newsletter to the web is a work in progress. Please submit ideas.

John Kellett - Rain Gardens are becoming popular due to recent publications. Anyone interested in developing a Rain Garden should consult John.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:25 A.M.

After a brief break Dr. Frank Blazich began his presentation on propagation which was attended by Master Gardeners and interested non-Master Gardeners.

Respectfully submitted,

Richard Boland
