The meeting was called to order by President Dan Sokoloski at 9:00 A.M. with the following
members present: Dan Sokoloski, Shirley Waggoner-Eisenman, Becky Dus, Ash Tyler, Linda Lemieux,
Hilton Holcomb, Peggy Meinzer and Richard Boland.
- Linda Lemieux gave a brief treasurerÕs report: the plant sale brought in $2,158.00 less
$456.56 for related expenses. The cost of the Holiday Party was discussed. There is a $244.91
balance for parties and recognitions.
It was agreed that any shortfall could be made up from the contingency fund. The budget for 2006 was touched upon. As this falls under the oversight of the Vice President, there is an urgency to move on the election or appointment of a qualified person to step up and give guidance. Names mentioned were Jackie Lewis, John Sullivan and Ed Wagner. - Hilton Holcomb continues to have difficulties in getting people power to tend the garden and
ÒhardscapeÓ chores.
Dan suggested a plan whereby individuals might claim ÒownershipÓ for certain parts of the garden thereby encouraging a spirit of friendly competition. It was the consensus that a recommitment and reinforcement of regulations was necessary but this can only be enforced by David Barkley, who was not present. - Dan read a statement from Charlie in his absence which touched upon several housekeeping matters. Included was a suggestion that we establish an honorary membership in our chapter to recognize non-member individuals who have been of unique service to our chapter. This will be dealt with at another meeting.
- Shirley Waggoner-Eisenman reported that the work she and David have been doing in recruiting speakers for our monthly meetings is going well. To date, they have lined up programs speakers through the middle of 2006. Shirley also mentioned the upcoming state conference to be held in Goldsboro and encouraged as many as could to attend.
- Ash Tyler informed the board that Frank Galloway is being treated for a blood clot in his leg which could result in the loss of same. Ash further reported that Billy Prevette had agreed to the purchase of two electric heaters for the greenhouse to augment the propane heaters due to the rising cost of propane.
- Becky Dus and her team are moving ahead in good order in the production of the newsletter. Kudos!
- Peggy Meinzer gave a preliminary report on the work of the nominating committee which is in the process of gathering names of members who wish to run for an office.
Respectfully submitted,
Richard Boland, Recording Secretary
