The Executive Board met at the Extension Office on Tuesday, January 11, 2005. The meeting was
convened at 9:00 A.M. by President Dan Sokoloski. The following members were present:
Linda Myers, Arlene Hubner Eisenman, Hilton Holcomb, Shirley Waggoner-Eisenman, Becky Dus,
Alan Fitzgibbon, Dan Sokoloski, Ash Tyler, Charlie Spencer, Linda Lemieux and Richard Boland.
This being our first meeting of the new year, President Dan expressed his desire for the chapter
to move ahead in a positive manner wherein a spirit of openness prevails with a sharing of ideas
and information. We were reminded that we are to be faithful to our purpose of continuing to gain
knowledge to be used for the public good. Our style would be that of monitoring our work and
adjusting when and where needed.
Agenda
- The Budget. This important topic was foremost on the agenda. Alan Fitzgibbon and his committee are to be commended for the excellent work they did in compiling and projecting a sound budget for the coming year. There was constructive and lively discussion concerning several points of the proposed budget including accounting procedures and the use of several funding categories such as new projects, restitution funds and the inclusion of a proposed web site. There was a consensus of opinion that certain designations be changed in order to "zero out" the 2005 budget. A motion by Alan Fitzgibbon with second by Ash Tyler was unanimously passed that the proposed budget be accepted by the Board and presented to the membership at the next general meeting on January 27, 2005.
- Schedule for the Year. After consulting several of his calendars, Charlie Spencer gave dates and times when the conference room would be available for the board to meet. He further presented the schedule of events for 2005.
- Web Site. There was enthusiastic discussion about establishing a web site. It is envisioned that such site will be partitioned into a limited access component for use by Master Gardeners only and a public access component. It is believed that such a web site would greatly enhance communication among the membership as well as making available timely information to the public concerning chapter activities.
- Special Project. Shirley Waggoner-Eisenman was contacted by a representative of the Ports Authority in Wilmington inviting our chapter to participate in their project whose theme is Liberty Ships. This entails planting containers with various plants for display at their venue as well as having a booth for a plant clinic which would be shared with the New Hanover chapter. This invitation was favorably received by the board. Shirley will give leadership to the project and Charlie will assist.
- Communications. A note from Dr. Martha Warner was read thanking the chapter for her Christmas gift.
Respectfully submitted,
Richard Boland, Recording Secretary
